Tourism Sustainability Barcelona Biosphere

Barcelona, December 2021 - On 16 December, Barcelona City Council, Tourism Barcelona and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce renewed our Barcelona Biosphere Tourism Sustainability certificate for the second consecutive year. The Commitment bases its methodology on the work around the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and, in recent months, as a result of the pandemic, has incorporated new measures that refer to health safety, establishing protocols recognised by the Safe Travels seal of the World Travel & Tourism Council.
COMPARTIR

The project, born in 2017 and promoted by the Diputació de Barcelona with the Institute for Responsible Tourism (ITR) and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, incorporated in 2019 the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. The aim is to recognise those entities that are committed to a management that respects climate change, the environment, culture and the social and economic return of the city and counties of Barcelona.

Companies that obtain the Barcelona Biosphere Destination Commitment to Sustainable Tourism label can apply for the Safe Travels label from the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. This seal is the first one approved worldwide and allows companies, organisations and destinations to be recognised in any country in the world for carrying out prevention and hygiene actions against COVID-19, with the aim of creating safe spaces for travellers.

The Barcelona Biosphere Destination Commitment to Sustainable Tourism responds both to the desire of tour operators to promote more careful tourism and to the wishes of visitors to be able to travel with the utmost respect for the environment.
